Work-Life Balance Myth: I’ll Make Up For Lost Time

August 5, 2022 by Dror Allouche Leave a Comment

Myth: I’ll make up for lost time

  • Your daughter’s missed birthday
  • Joining your family two weeks later on vacation to ensure the quarter closing
  • The children’s first day of school.

You can’t make up for those moments. And buying your kids nice souvenirs at the airport won’t change that.

But you can:

  • Prioritize your family calendar over your work calendar. When both arrive build around the first and not the second.
  • Delegate, automate, cancel. Do a regular audit of your schedule (weekly). What are the activities where I bring little added value? That I don’t like to do anymore? Which are done out of habit?
  • Clarify with your boss. The job will always be done, but my family life takes priority.
  • If, despite all this, the imbalance is too strong, re-evaluate and find a career that allows you to better manage both.

To be successful in your career and family life, you must put intention first.

Design your life, don’t suffer it.
