In June 2016, after reading “living forward,” written by Mychael Hyatt and Daniel Harkavy, I follow a free webinar with Daniel.
At one point, he spoke about his annual calendar, and some family tradition he was intentionally planning.
I remembered highlighting in my mindmap the following one. For every birthday in the family, the whole family was gathering together. Not as we all do at the weekend. But really on the day.
So, it means that both parents were taking a day off, and the children were missing school.
We have adopted this tradition since 2016 and have lived unique memories as a family. Those special events become excellent occasions to build a perfect day for the family.
How to build a perfect day?
What is a perfect day?
I believe that the answer will be different for each of us.
I’ve learned through the years that a perfect day is less about the material than the experience we lived. So I always try to fill it with great adventures. It’s all about the intention of having a great day.
How I feed my days between sunrise and sunset, determine what kind of days, weeks, months, and life I will have.
Unknown.
For my wife’s birthday recently, we’ve started with an excellent breakfast in the morning.
She discovered the drawing of the children and a writing card from me. We enjoyed a great breakfast.
Then, the children went to school. This year, they could not miss it, they’ve just started in a new school, so we agreed that we can catch up at the weekend.
My wife likes sports, so we start the day with a bike ride to our new favorite lake, followed by a run around the lake and a swim in the lake. We were quite the first ones. It’s a great thing to swim alone in a lake surrounded by nature. We returned home by bike, happy.
In the evening, we had dinner in her favorite sushi Japanese restaurant followed by a long walk in the city, enjoying the warm evening, (not usual in Switzerland)
For us, it was a perfect day. During our life, we had sometimes spent much more money and not getting these memories. It’s not about materials, it is about the intention and the experience.
Special occasions are great to build these “perfect day experience”. But let’s not wait for them. A perfect day can be offered to someone you love, or just to you.
Recognize what makes you happy. Reading a book, walking, running, writing. When you do something you love, record it in your favorite tool. Mine is Evernote for years. You will soon have a file with great things you love to do and never miss the inspiration.
Plan intentionally for the full year, few days for your loved ones, for you. Take a day off, and dedicate these moments to build “your perfect day”.
When is your next “perfect day” plan?
Enjoy
