Everything pushes us to conform. Our education, school, work, social comparison.
Most of the time we don’t even realize it anymore. We are on auto-pilot.
Nature makes it easier to see it in others than in ourselves.
Observe these types of sentences
- “in principle, we do it like this”
- “It”s not possible.”
- “No, not like that; it will never work.”
But in reality, when you think about things that have marked you. Did they conform?
I’ve flown hundreds of times for work.
I have very few memories of them.
But I will never forget a group of musicians who spontaneously gathered and sang acapella as the tension mounted because our plane was so late.
Or this presentation of a team in a corporate environment who chose to sing a classic to emphasize their message.
Or this video with an Asian teacher who personalizes the welcome according to the morning mood of the child. The teacher is at the front door, and there is a sign with 6 to 8 choices, a formal handshake, a high five, a dance, a hug. Each kid chooses and it makes for an original morning ceremony.
What makes it special?
It’s the boldness and the difference. These qualities are in each of us, more or less buried in different degrees. They are linked to our creativity, and they could be worked like a muscle.
The 10 ideas exercise.
The author James Altucher proposes the 10 ideas exercise.
I can already see you thinking, “what is this thing?”
It’s super simple, and it helps you get out of your cage.
When you need or want to do something, spend a few minutes and write down 10 ideas for doing it.
- 10 ideas to get my message across in my next presentation.
- 10 ideas to get a new job.
- 10 ideas to start a business on the side.
And if you want a great 2022. Mix it up with discipline.
Discipline is not a cage, it’s an accelerator. For example, if you test the concept of 10 ideas, writing 10 a day, your year will be explosive.
Why?
Because you’ve added consistency. By the way, that’s what the author recommends, writing 10 ideas a day.
So ready to open the cage and fly to 2022?
