Want to deliver impactful messages. Simplify. Here are 4 ideas.

February 10, 2022 by Dror Allouche Leave a Comment

We’ve all been to a presentation where the only thing on the audience’s mind is, “I hope this is the last slide.” We tend to make things complex.

“Making the simple complicated is commonplace; making the complicated simple, awesomely simple, that’s creativity.
—Charles Mingus

You want to deliver impactful messages. Simplify. Here are 4 ideas.

  • Change the paradigm. Replace “Complexity demonstrates my expertise” with “My expertise is my ability to simplify.”
Two books come to mind where the authors brilliantly simplified two complex topics ( coaching & investing). “The coaching habit by Michael Bungay Stanier” and “The Simple Path to Wealth by J. L. Collins.”
  • Spend more time on the content. Simplifying is complicated. It requires spending time on reflection, ideas, chronology—approach technological tools for formatting last.
  • Edit to remove. Work hard on reflection. Take a break and come back to reduce.
  • Wait for them to ask. You know your topic, you’ve worked it through, you have back up. If they ask questions (ideal situation), you are ready to go deeper.

Remember.

Less is more. Spend more time on the content and less during the presentation. And use the question round to reinforce your message.
