We often think, wrongly, that we can prepare for anything?
And once we have done so, our tasks, our projects, our life will unfold as planned.
But it is never (or rarely, luck existsđ) the case?
So should we not prepare anything?
No, that would be a mistake. You have to prepare without overdoing it and be aware that it will constantly change. You will win more thanks to your constant adaptation than by the perfection of your initial plan.
“Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.”
âMike Tyson
Your next yearâs plan.
The year is starting, you have projects and plans. That’s great!
You should know your direction. But prepare yourself mentally. You’re going to face difficulties.
- And that’s not a reason to give up. It’s an opportunity to improve.
- It’s not a mistake in your preparation. Itâs an evolution you couldn’t anticipate.
The more complex your project is, the more you will need constant correction.
But how to prepare for this complexity?
There must be dozens of ways. None of them will be perfect. They will all require continuous correction. But one tool works well with this “art of correction. Writing in your journal every day.
You can practice the âart of correctionâ at two different speeds.
- Quietly, in the morning or the evening, thinking about the day. What can I adjust in my project?
- In the heat of the moment, as Tyson reminds us.
And the journal helps with both.Â

It seems obvious that journaling helps afterwards, but how can it help in the heat of the moment?
Experienced chess players often win games because they have a repertoire of more important positions. They have seen these situations in practice. And now that they are under time pressure, they react quickly without excessive calculation.
By writing in your journal every day, focusing on possible improvements, you develop dozens, hundreds of combinations. The day you are hit by that violent punch that life throws at you, you are more likely to find an intuitive solution. You have trained your mind.
There are many things you can’t predict. Life will confront you with multiple difficulties, your ability to correct is your best asset. Develop it.
