Make 2024 A Success: Move From An Event To A Process

January 8, 2024 by Dror Allouche Leave a Comment

The beginning of the year. One of the rare moments where (almost) everyone has good resolutions.

The gyms are full. Language classes are packed.

But it often doesn’t last…

So what to do?

Make 2024 a success: Move from an event to a process

Create your big picture.

2024 is your penultimate doll.

What are the others?

  • Your life project (who do you want to become?)
  • Your long-term projects: 25/10 years (That’s only 100/40 quarters 🙂)
  • Your year (4 quarters to make 2024 your best year)
  • Your quarter (finally, we’re taking action.)

Everything fits together, and January 2024 becomes a period (almost) like any other.

But how do I create my life project?

If you haven’t already done so, I encourage you to plunge. And here are three resources to help you. Choose one and get started. The tool is less important than getting started.

Time needed to create your big picture :

  • One day: How do you build your life project?
  • Half-day: Hero On A Mission
  • 45 minutes: triple A

A big picture accelerates projects. It changed my life and the lives of many of my customers.

Don’t fall into the trap of over-preparing.

Done, you’ve got your big picture.

You’re getting ready to choose your 2024 projects and are eager to do the planning exercise.

An exciting phase.

Excel spreadsheets, the latest tool in fashion. We’re caught up in it. This is the year.

But that’s forgetting that the planner and the doer act at two different times.

D+1, it’s your doer’s turn.

And you’re tired. The return to the office was terrible. The youngest is sick. You have a toothache…

Missing your first day discourages you.
The file with your grand plan is gathering dust. “I’ll start later”

What if you did things differently?(Inspiration is like a good dish; you have to eat it hot. How to develop your creativity)

Start and prepare at the same time

Use the planner’s energy to start executing

You have defined your three major projects for the year. You’ve got lots of ideas.

Instead of spending hours organizing everything, follow your intuition and select an action you can start now.

In November 2023, I realized I had to make learning German a priority again. ( see my Aha moment)

In December 2023, I began testing several approaches to a goal that was becoming crystal clear. Go from B1 to C1 in German.

Even before writing my 2024 objectives. I had already started :

  • Reuse my techniques to accelerate my learning (How To Learn A New Language With A Full Time Job?)
  • Finding new ones. Lingoda, Lingolia, quizlet…

By January 3, 2024, I had already achieved +30 classes with Lingoda (By the way, you save CHF 50 with this link).

And the same goes for my other goals:

  • I started my PCC (Professional Certified Coach) training in November 2023.
  • Running, with ten or so outings in the last few days of December, well before I wrote down my 2024 ambitions to keep physically fit.

We say “Einen guten Rutsch ins neue Jahr” in the german part of Switzerland. A good slide into the new year.

I like the idea of continuity between years, quarters, and weeks. All aligned towards our big picture.

The quarterly frequency and daily review allow us to constantly adapt.

Our two wheels move forward at the same time.

Conclusion

The event is isolated. Once a year. And it assumes that we can predict what we need to do for the whole year.

The process

Life plan => Long project => Year => Quarter => Daily review (1 minute) never stops. It helps align the big picture with the action.

This is your year. No matter what stage you’re at, you can decide to start the process and make each quarter a step toward your most significant project. The one of your life…
