Investing in our future.
My sister recently asked me if I had a grudge against my first karate teacher.
I’d never thought about it from that angle.
I had talent.
I was a go-getter.
I was winning.
Until the day my karate teacher broke my sternum.
This accident should never have happened in training. And certainly not from the coach.
I never really recovered from that injury.
From an attacker, I became a defender.
I didn’t dare like I used to.
And I relapsed 3 times from shocks in competition.
What kind of sporting career could I have had without this nasty injury?
No one will know, and this question doesn’t help.
On the contrary, it slows down like all the others in this style.
- Why me?
- Why this way?
- If….I could have…
We cannot change it, but we can learn and gain a lot from our experiences .
Investing in our future: how to turn our experiences into opportunities
What I learned from this experience
The Stoics say, “You have no control over the weather, but you can choose to enjoy any weather.”
I never managed to become world karate champion (and that’s certainly not just due to my injury😀), but I gained a lot from the experience :
- Self-taught: To live my dream, I stopped studying at a relatively young age. This decision helped me to become self-taught and fall in love with learning in all its forms.
- Thirst for learning: I went back to school with a thirst for learning that has never left me. Reading, for example, helped me to become financially independent, to be promoted 8 times and to join the executive of an international group…
- Learning discipline: Training every day has developed my sense of discipline. It has served me well and continues to do so at every stage of my career.
And I could repeat this exercise for all my other experiences, both successful and unsuccessful. (and you too, by the way 😀)
Transforming our experiences into opportunities: Past, present, future
Our current experiences have much more impact than we think.
Coaching
What I’m experiencing today is based on my past experiences but goes far beyond that and is already preparing my future without me even realizing it.
To develop my coaching business, I have learned to :
- Write online
- Create a community
- Developing my listening skills
- Asking the right questions
- Networked
- Selling online…
How can these skills help me find and accelerate my next opportunities?
Investing in our future
What we have achieved.
What we have missed.
What we are living.
Everything has meaning. Some questions help us find it, others lead us away.
A question for you.
How can my current or past experiences help me accelerate my important projects?
