I tried to get self-disciplined, but I get discouraged. What I’ve learned from 5 years of daily practice.
“I did so much in a week, a month, a year…And nothing has improved. I should give up.”
I understand. It might be tempting as a thought.
But don’t. 😉
Why?
Self-discipline doesn’t reward linearly.
It adds up over time and in the end it pays exponentially.
For example:
- Journaling every day did not have any visible impact for months. But, after more than 5 years of practice, it now elevates me to a new quality of thinking. It helps me improve at home and at work dramatically.
- Doing a 7-minute workout daily did not impact my body for weeks, months. But after a few years of practice, all my back issues (where some doctors wanted to operate) have disappeared and I now feel more vital than ever.
- Learning German 30 minutes per day showed minimal results in the first months. But after around one year of practice, I started to feel confident enough to have my first conversations in German with strangers….
Don’t give up. Find pleasure in your daily practice.
Be impatient with the actions (your daily practice) and patient with results.
Enjoy the journey…
