How to keep going with your habits when it becomes harder?

February 7, 2021 by Dror Allouche 2 Comments

I’m a firm believer in self-discipline. It has helped me to achieve so many projects that were close to my heart in different ways. I owe most of my achievements to consistency.

But sometimes, it’s hard to keep going with the routines.

That’s where small innovations come in.

I’ve learned to innovate inside my routines. We often associate innovations only with significant changes. I see it differently; innovation is also doing the same things in a slightly different way. This concept helps me to keep going with my consistency when it becomes more challenging.

Let’s take two examples.
To stay in shape, I do a 7-minute workout every day. I’ve been doing it for more than 2000 days in a row (I missed 4 days by accident 😀). See: How do you start doing the things you want to do?

I use the 7MWC apps to guide me. After a period of time, I got bored with their traditional series. I started to move to another set. Then I began to build my own series. And periodically, I changed the sequences.
With each new series, I find a new interest that helps me to continue. And keep going guarantees that I stay in shape which is my ultimate goal.

I use Duolingo to learn languages. Get instant access here to my method.
I have more than 1500 days streak. Does it mean that I always do the same things? No. I’ve tested different approaches that I changed per period.

•       doing one lesson and moving to the next available ring.
•       doing all the lessons in one ring.
•       using the key to jump directly at the end of the lesson.
•       doing the stories.
•       Restore a lesson…

So the key for me is to keep the pillar (self-discipline) and vary the approaches (content or way to do it).
