How to build habits with the Streak game.

March 28, 2021 by Dror Allouche Leave a Comment

I’m a big fan of the Streak concept to support my discipline. I follow three main Streak digitally.

  • Language learning : Duolingo ( >1550 days) LingQ (>730)
  • Health: 7 Minute Workout Challenge( app 7MWC>2000 days of practice but lost several streaks )

The streak concept is supporting the improvement by daily practice, and I believe in his power.

Let’s imagine an empty bucket in which you put a coin every day. The first ten days do not have a big impact. But when you arrive at 1000 days, the bucket is heavy, and the stakes are high. So it becomes a high motivation to continue.

And the reverse is true. I have around 2000 days of 7MWC practice, but I’ve lost a few days of Streak by accident. Once I had 625 days of Streak. I forgot it one day (that happens 😁 ).In the following days, I lost it again. The bucket was empty, and also the motivation.

Recently I arrived to 225 days but I lost it again for a technical reason. I was doing my exercise but listening to a podcast at the same time on the phone.
The 7MWC app put the exercise on hold which means it has destroyed the streak 🤕. But I’m back in the game. Yesterday I was celebrating 5 days of the 7MWC. My bucket is slowly but surely filling up. I’ll fight to beat the 625.

So let’s choose games that support our system.

We all play games all day long. The game of life, business…
Most of the time, there are unconscious games that do not help us.
As humans, we love to play. It comes from our childhood, and it’s fun.

So let’s choose games that support our system.

In the end, I don’t care about the days. But I care to stay healthy, to improve my language skills…That’s what the Streak game does for me.

What are your Streaks?
