For the first time in a long time, it’s down.
What am I talking about?
My screen time on my mobile.
-40% compared to last week.
But Dror, how did you do it?
I used a very elaborate strategy.
It’s going to be hard to explain simply.
No, I’m just kidding 😀
I did something very simple, that you can do by the end of this post.
I deleted the most toxic application on my phone.
Delete your toxic apps
LinkedIn.
The LinkedIn service is not toxic for me.
It allows me:
- Improve my writing. I write almost a post a day.
- Keep in touch with my network.
- Meet interesting people.
- Target and find my typical customer for my Leadership offer.
- Find inspiration for my future texts…
But, on my phone, the app is toxic.
- I go there passively when I have downtime.
- It frequently cuts me off in a focus work session.
- I tend to look at it when I’m not working
So in the end, I decided to intentionally use LinkedIn on my PC and eliminate it from my phone.
Another positive effect
I use the apps that contribute to my projects more.
My current favourites
- Reader: Read articles I’ve saved.
See Accelerate your projects with Readwise: my method for making better use of what you read - For my C1 project in German
- Blinkist: book summaries in German
- Quizlet: vocabulary review
- Duolingo: to work on my pronunciation.
- Evernote: for organizing my ideas. The app has improved a lot in recent months
Ready to give it a try?
What are your toxic applications?
The ones you use passively, which have the power to make you lose 30 minutes without realizing it. And when you finish a session, you’re often more frustrated than satisfied.
Remove
Don’t be so afraid. At worst, you can always come back to it.
List the applications that contribute to your major projects
In general, those that help you learn something.
Use them more intentionally.
Put them prominently on your phone. You use more what you see.
It’s sometimes very simple to do better to move your important projects forward.
What are you going to delete from your phone today?
