Even when we have good intentions, we sometimes fall back into the state of complaining. And the sneaky thing is that we don’t even realize it anymore.
I remembered sitting in my car in a small business park in a Parisian suburb, waiting for my next appointment more than twenty years ago.
You guessed it. I was a salesman. My morning, my week had been terrible. I was finishing a sandwich, lamenting my fate.
Damn, I had to start all over again after having managed to last 7 days. What am I talking about?
The “mental diet.” A concept that I had read in Awaken the Giant Within Book by Tony Robbins
It’s about avoiding all negative thoughts for more than 2 minutes. It’s not about ignoring our emotions or problems but to always look for the construction state. To look at the solution(s) rather than being locked into the problem.
In my case.
What has not worked so far? What is interesting about this situation?
And interesting things have happened since. Sales have been a tremendous accelerator in my career. I worked my way up to general management positions, achieved financial independence, and many other incredible things that seemed unattainable when I was sitting in that car.
But even today, I sometimes fall back into the state of complaining. And often, this idea of “mental diet” comes back to me. I don’t go back on the 10 days—although I should do it again, it can’t hurt—but I have some sort of mental trigger that reminds me to get back to the solutions quickly.
So if you want to start fresh mentally, try it for 10 days.
Every time you have negative thoughts for more than 2 minutes. Try again.
It’s not easy but it helps create a unique habit that will serve you every day—the ability to focus on solutions.
Enjoy the adventure.
