Change your perspective, change your life: 10 techniques to trigger your AHA moments
Whether in our personal or professional lives, we sometimes find ourselves stuck in our thought patterns and behaviors.
- We see only one possible answer.
- We repeat behaviors we don’t like.
- We underestimate the potential of an opportunity.
And sometimes, like a flash of lightning, an AHA moment strikes. A change of perspective, and we say to ourselves:
“But of course! How did I not think of this before?”
What if you could multiply these moments of insight, choose your reactions, and better seize the opportunities that come your way?
Here are 10 ideas to trigger your perspective shifts:
1) Think big, see far. Your ideal future.
Our natural tendency is to focus on the next step. What if, instead, we projected ourselves into an ideal future? This gives us greater clarity and facilitates action.
This simple concept changed my life. I learned it from Stephen Covey 25 years ago, and he still helps me.
If all goes well with this project, what will I have achieved in 25/10/1 year,1 quarter?

2) Gain perspective. In the meeting, or on the balcony?
When we’re in the heat of the moment, we’re caught up in our emotions. Imagine taking a step back, as if you were observing the scene from a balcony.
This allows you to see things with more distance and clarity.
What are we really trying to achieve in this meeting?
3) Relive the action
When I was doing karate, my dad used to film my competitions.
I felt like I was discovering new things with every review.
Review your day as if you were watching it on a screen. Put it in perspective with what you want to achieve. What could you do differently tomorrow?
4) Switch to “déjà-vu” mode. Another perspective.
Me
- Have I ever faced a similar situation?
- How did I manage it?
Others
- Who has ever had to deal with this situation?
- How did he manage it?
- What can I learn from it?
5) What if…?
Everything is created twice. Once in our heads, once in our reality.
Suppose I :
- Succeed, what will change in my life?
- Don’t try it, what’s it going to cost me?
What will it cost me if I do nothing?
6) Put yourself in the other person’s shoes.
Suppose I were my teenage son, how would I perceive this decision?
7/ Change your environment, change your energy.
How can I increase my company’s revenue tenfold while working a maximum of 6 hours a day?
I’m more courageous and ambitious when I ask myself this question while running than when I’m sitting in front of my PC after a long day.
8/ What if I were…?
- What would X (someone you admire) do in my place?
- And if I were my own consultant, what would I recommend to myself?
- And if I were to start again from scratch in my current position, what would my priorities be?
9/ Reverse the question.
What if I wasn’t trying to grow my business, what would be the advantages and disadvantages?
10/ What if I knew?
- What do I already know?
- What am I missing?
- And if I knew, what would I do?
Conclusion
Coaching is a kind of factory for creating “AHA” moments for clients.
But there’s no magic, just a process that combines:
Quality time (focus without distractions) + Questions + Reflection.
Bring these 3 elements together, and trigger your own perspective shifts.
The quality of our lives depends on the quality of our thinking.
See you soon.
