A long time ago I read the book “The ONE Thing” by Gary W. Keller and Jay Papasan
And today I realize how much the visual with the Domino Effect has marked me.
The biggest projects all start with an action. The most insignificant one.
The key to success is action, and the essential in action is perseverance.
— Sun Yat-sen
The experience of the Domino Effect.
You may have seen this experiment on youtube (see below) the author explains and demonstrates that each domino is able to push and drop one and a half times its size.
He starts with a 0,5 mm domino and end at 13 dominoes, he drops a 45 kilos piece.
If he continues, at 29 dominoes, he will knock down the Empire State Building.
This is the power of one small action. It rolls and each one advances your project with a multiplying force.
The domino effect
I have experienced the Domino Effects on many occasions:
- When we set ambitions far greater than our budget with a team. Our first actions seemed insignificant. By the end of the year, we were celebrating incredible successes.
- When I set out to do an Iron Man without knowing how to swim crawl.
- Or when started this blog to improve my English (my native language is French) and after 4 year, there are more than 350 articles…
We all have examples like this.
And if you don’t yet, don’t panic. Here is the recipe.
6 actions to start and realize your most beautiful project
- View the big picture. What do you want to do? Dream big. I use my life plan as an exercice and a guide.
- Don’t try to create a plan for the destination.
- Look for the very first actions—your domino of a few millimeters.
- Launch the action.
- Move on to the next one.
- Do it for a long time.
One day, you’ll have your “Empire state building” moment.
Why am I telling you this?
The best time to start was yesterday. The second one is today.
Your first domino : block out time in your calendar with yourself to set your next dreams.
My date is the same, every end of the quarter.
When is yours scheduled?
