5 Things I learned from setting up a countdown to my life on my phone.

March 19, 2022 by Dror Allouche Leave a Comment

Remembering that we will die is a great way to live more vibrantly.

Somebody should tell us, right at the start of our lives, that we are dying. Then we might live life to the limit, every minute of every day. Do it! I say. Whatever you want to do, do it now. There are only so many tomorrows.”
—Michael Landon.

By the way, I looked on Wikipedia and discovered that Michael died at age 54 from cancer. Life can be really short.

Kevin Kelly appears in Tim Ferriss’ book “Tools of Titans”. He explains that he uses a countdown clock to remind himself that life is short.

Why not try it?

Considering that the average age in developed countries is around 80, I only have 12,000 days left. I use this application for the test.

5 things the countdown reminds me of daily :

  • Hug the people I love more often.
  • Put the little things in life into perspective.
  • Having the courage to do the things that scare me, but that I want to do: I recently quit my job and will launch a “solopreneur” business. I decided to value time over money.
  • Improve my efficiency: I only have 12,000 days (if I’m lucky), so I might as well focus on the essentials.
  • Take more time for me. Stroll, do sports, learn, read, walk, play, chat with a friend…

And you. What do you plan to do with your precious days?
